Campaigning for Women inside and outside the Liberal Democrats

Something of interest....

11.48.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 18th May 2010

'Women, Power and Politics' will trace the history of women from Elizabeth I, through the Suffragettes, the Thatcher years, Greenham Common, to women in politics today, asking why women are so badly underrepresented in government. Tying in with these themes is a film season, debates and an art exhibition.

WOMEN, POWER and POLITICS

It is 92 years since women were first allowed to stand for government, yet women still only make up 22 % of MPs in Parliament. Why is this? The Tricycle have commissioned 12 new plays that seek to ask questions, open debate and look at the complexity of women and political power in the UK.

Two programmes of new plays by:

Bola Agbaje, Moira Buffini, Zinnie Harris, Sam Holcroft, Marie Jones, Lucy Kirkwood, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Sue Townsend and Joy Wilkinson. With verbatim accounts edited by Gillian Slovo.

Plus an international film festival, discussions and an exhibition.
